Angola and Japan signed an Agreement for the Construction of Ethanol Production and Refining Sugar Factories

Angola and Japan signed yesterday in Luanda, a protocol for the construction of factories to produce and refine of sugar and ethanol in the city of Humbe, Cunene Province.

The project is a 652 million dollars investment by the Japanese trading powerhouse, Marubeni Corporation, which involves the construction of two factories. According to the Japanese ambassador to Angola, Ryozo Myoi, the refining plant will have capacity to produce annually 400,000 tonnes of white sugar.

The ethanol plant will have a capacity to produce about 40,000 kiloliters annually, as well as process 200 kiloliters of anhydrous ethanol and extra neutral alcohol, daily.
The project will have a total area of
??????66,000 hectares, including a sugar cane plantation and will employ 15,000 workers.

Ambassador Myoi said that the factories which will be in operation within five years, will contribute to reduce Angola’s dependence on sugar imports, diversification of its industry, encourage its agro-industrial development, create new jobs and in the development and revitalization of the economy and society.

According to the Minister of Geology, Mines and Industry, Joaquim David, the location of Humbe has a potential which is consistent with the goal and projects of Marubeni Corporation.
With the support of several entities there has already been significant progress in the construction of the factories.

Besides this project, Japan has in Angola, some other projects already underway, such as the rebuilding of three textile factories, namely, Textang-II, in Luanda and Benguela Province, and SATEC in Kwanza-Norte Province.

Witnessed the Signing Ceremony, the Ministers of Agriculture and Rural Development, of Hotels and Tourism and representatives of the province of Cunene. The Agreement was signed by Mr. Benjamin Dombolo Director of Industrial Development Institute, for the Angolan Government and Mr. Kuramoto Masataka, for the Marubeni Corporation.
