Ambassador of Angola to Japan, Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, highlighted the role of former Botswana President Festus Mogae as a great statesman, visionary leader, and uncompromising freedom fighter who dedicated his entire life to the cause of his people.

While signing the book of condolences opened at the Botswana Embassy in Tokyo following his passing, the Angolan diplomat also underscored the legacy left by Festus Mogae, considering him an example for future generations and a figure who had a profound impact on promoting development and stability in SADC countries. As she stated, these contributions make him one of Africa’s most distinguished sons.

Festus Gontebanye Mogae was the third president in Botswana’s history, having governed the country from 1998 to 2008. He passed away on May 8, 2026, at the age of 86, due to illness.
