AMBASSADOR OF JAPAN SIGNS A DONATION AGREEMENT TO SUPPORT DEMINING IN ANGOLA

The Ambassador of Japan in Angola, Mr. MARUHASHI Jiro, signed two donation agreements for a total of USD 1,181,195 (One Million, One Hundred Eighty One Thousand, One Hundred Ninety Five American Dollars) under the program of “Assistance to Community and Human Security Projects (APC)” of the Embassy of Japan, aiming to support demining activities to be implemented by the national NGO Association of Angolan Professionals against Mine Action (APACOMINAS) and the international NGO Mine Advisory Group (MAG) with all Covid-19 protection measures in place.

The signing ceremony of the agreements was held, between Mr. MARUHASHI Jiro Ambassador of Japan and the responsible person of the two above mentioned NGOs, on March 3rd at the official residence of the Ambassador of Japan, witnessed by His Excellency Eng. Leonardo Severino Sapalo, General Director of ANAM (National Agency for Mine Action) and Brigadeiro Ramos Miguel, General Director of INAD (National Demining Institute).

This donation aims to support the “Project of Demining at the Municipality of Quibala in Kwanza Sul Province”, to be carried out by APACOMINAS that will demine an area of 950. 000 square meters, aiming to maximize the agriculture potential of the region and ensure the improvement of working conditions of farmers who engage in family farming, and the “Project of Demining at the Municipality of Luena in Moxico Province” to be implemented by MAG which proposes to demine about 280,000 square meters to ensure safe movement of people and goods, as well as to help the development of the city of Luena. There is also the expectation that the projects will contribute to the renewal of the data of the demining plan of the country.
