PRESS RELEASE

Tokyo, June 22, 2026 – Angola’s ambassador to Japan, Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, received her Estonian counterpart in Tokyo, Andres Unga, in an audience on Friday (June 19, 2026).

The meeting, which was of a ceremonial nature, provided an opportunity for the Angolan diplomat to welcome the Estonian representative, who was recently appointed to serve in Japan.

Bilateral relations between Angola and Estonia are relatively recent but have been intensifying, particularly in the areas of digital transformation, e-governance, and administrative modernization.

The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations since 1991, following the restoration of Estonia’s independence. In recent years, high-level political contacts have become more frequent, reflecting a mutual interest in deepening cooperation.

In March 2024, Estonian President Alar Karis paid an official visit to Angola at the invitation of President João Lourenço. During the visit, a new cooperation agreement in the digital sector was signed, strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries and opening new prospects for collaboration in areas related to technological innovation and the modernization of public services.
