The Japanese ambassador to Angola called yesterday in Huambo for a strengthened effort to combat the risk factors associated with financial crime, particularly tax crimes and those related to the strategic minerals sector, to ensure more effective management of assets along the Lobito Corridor.
Hiroaki Sano put forward this idea at the Workshop on the Strategic Importance of the Lobito Corridor, held as part of efforts to expand cooperation between the public and private sectors. In this regard, he advocated for the adoption of preventive measures to promote a safer environment along the corridor.
He noted that the strategic importance of the Lobito Corridor hinges, first and foremost, on identifying and understanding the potential risk factors associated with financial crime across various sectors of economic activity.
According to Hiroaki Sano, the timely detection and combating of criminal practices are essential to prevent these incidents from jeopardizing investments and the development of the Lobito Corridor.
Role of the Public and Private Sectors
For his part, Angelino Elavoco, Huambo’s Deputy Governor for Political, Economic, and Social Affairs, highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors to safeguard the Corridor’s integrity and reputation, as well as to enhance its attractiveness.
