University students and some recent graduates of the Portuguese language program at Sophia University, a private Catholic institution of higher education located in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward, learned how to prepare chicken moamba, corn funge, quitaba, and paracuca.

Ms. Fernanda Sampaio, the Embassy’s head chef, shared her knowledge and techniques of Angolan cuisine in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, which sparked interest among the Japanese participants, who delighted in the intense and unique flavors of these Angolan delicacies.

The cooking class was conducted in Portuguese so that students could practice the language while learning about Angolan culture. The initiative was organized by the Student Association of Sophia University’s Portuguese Language program, which has previously held the same cooking class with the Brazilian and Portuguese Embassies in Tokyo.
