Yokohama – An Angolan delegation is to attend the seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7), to take place in Japan on August 28-30.

This year’s event will be held in Yokohama under the theme “Africa and Yokohama Sharing Passion for the Future”.

TICAD is being jointly organized and chaired by the government of Japan, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), World Bank (WB) and African countries.

The event aims at promoting high level political dialogue between African leaders and international partners to mobilize support for initiatives turned to economic development, peace and security with greater African appropriation.

Speaking to ANGOP on Thursday, Angola’s ambassador to Japan, Rui Orlando Xavier, said the event is of paramount importance for African states, which chose the Asian country as international strategic partner for cooperation.

Japan has financed several projects in Angola, namely the rehabilitation of the Port of Namibe Province; it also aided the recovery of three textile factories located in the provinces of Luanda, Cuanza Norte and Benguela.

The Asian country has also financed the Angolan firm “Angola Cable” in the acquisition of equipment for submarine installation.

The two countries are expected to sign, in short-term, two fundamental instruments with highlight on the General Cooperation Agreement to bolster cooperation between the African and Asian nation.
