As part of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary (Jubilee) of National Independence, the Embassy of Angola in Japan organized on Saturday, March 15th of the current year, an event to sing, publicize, and educate about the lyrics of the National Anthem of Angola, “Angola Avante”. The activity was attended by more than 100 Japanese citizens, including students, members of the local community, as well as members of the National Anthems Association.

In addressing the audience, H.E. Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of Angola in Japan, stated that the National Anthem has, throughout the long period preceding the 50 years of National Independence, represented the voice, the face, the values, as well as the customs of the enigmatic Angolan people, thus elucidating their duty to strengthen the homeland and the Nation State. The same Diplomat further argued that “Angola Avante” represents the cry of all women, men, young people, and children of our country, in their desire to strengthen the spirit of love for the homeland, respect for all Angolans, as well as the struggle for freedom, defense, and respect for national heroes.

The Anthem has for approximately 50 years marked the nation, the people, freedom, and above all, the will to transform a great, prosperous, and developed country, she emphasized. The participants of the National Anthem event had the opportunity to learn about the history related to the composition of the Anthem and to attend a lecture on “50 Years of Independence”, which portrayed the history of the liberation struggle, the period of independence, the civil war, as well as the peace process, national reconciliation, and development, delivered and presented by H.E. Mrs. Ambassador.

This event, one of the many marking the Jubilee festivities of Angola, uniquely brought together more than 100 Japanese citizens, who took the opportunity to learn the lyrics, the history of Angola, and ultimately sing the Anthem “Angola Avante” in Portuguese, a fact that demonstrated not only the existing friendship and cooperation between the two peoples but also launched the learning of Angolan history, art, and culture. Considering the knowledge of national habits and customs, a lunch followed with the tasting of the main national dishes, appreciated by the Japanese citizens present.

Tokyo, as part of the celebration of February 4th (the day of the start of the National Liberation Struggle), the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Japan participated this Sunday, February 9th, 2025, in the cultural Pre-Event to celebrate the holding of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-9), a cultural and educational event organized by the Yokohama City (Kanagawa), aimed at informing and raising awareness among Japanese citizens about the importance of cooperation and cultural interaction with African peoples.

The TICAD cultural event featured the participation of various African and Japanese exhibitors who brought to the city of Yokohama the culture, dance, music (with a musical performance with traditional African instruments), a fashion show of traditional Japanese costumes tailored with African fabrics, as well as the exhibition and sale of traditional African utensils, thus highlighting the existing interaction and rapprochement between Japanese and African artists.

Angola, as guest of honor at the same event, took the opportunity to promote a tasting event of Coffee and some spirits manufactured in our country, as well as to publicize its culture, habits, customs and traditions of its people, through the distribution of advertising material (small booklet) that portrays the history, tourism with its vast fauna/flora and economic potential for the Japanese people and other foreign entities present.

Those present were delighted with the rich and intense flavor of Angolan Coffee, with the refreshing taste of the drinks displayed in cocktail format, as well as being happy to learn about the long and attractive recent history of our country, with emphasis on the process of liberation, peace and development, aligned with the current policies of the executive in its vision of economic diversification.

The TICAD pre-event comes at a time when Angola is preparing for its participation in a dual capacity, national and as President of the African Union, in an event scheduled for August 20-22, 2025, in the city of Yokohama.

On November 28th of the current year, HE Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, participated in a meeting on investments between SADC Ambassadors (accredited in Japan) and the Federation of Japanese Companies (KEIDANREN).

The meeting in question served to present the SADC Industrialization Strategy, a document that lists the main pillars for the region’s development focused on industrialization, competitiveness and regional integration, allowing the emergence of economies more focused on development.

SADC Ambassadors took the opportunity to create an open approach with representatives from KEIDANREN on the different existing projects in the region, which could benefit from Japan’s investment, focused on the areas of infrastructure, energy, transport, industrial development, agriculture, mines and green economy. They also addressed other important issues linked to economic development, economic/digital transformation and the need to attract new investments.

At the end of the meeting, a session was organized to exchange experience, contacts and search for connections between Companies and Ambassadors in the region, in which H.E. Mrs. Ambassador took opportunity of the occasion to maintain contacts with some important companies and mention the Angolan Government’s policies in attracting investments, taking as an example some projects such as the new Luanda International Airport (Dr. António Agostinho Neto), the Lobito Corridor project , the Angola LNG project (Zaire Province), the Caraculo photovoltaic project, among others, which are increasingly attracting the attention of different international investors.

The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Angola to Japan, H.E. Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, reaffirmed at the event commemorating the 49th anniversary of national independence, held today Saturday, November 16, the commitment of the Angolan Executive led by His Excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic, in improving the socio-economic conditions of the Angolan population, with the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructures of roads, hospitals, ports, airports, as well as housing centers in most provinces, acts that positively contribute to improving connectivity , health, social well-being of our populations and integration of the country’s macro-economic system infrastructures.

The diplomat also mentioned the importance of contracts such as the reconstruction of the Lobito Corridor, as well as the new International Airport Dr. António Agostinho Neto, contribute to greater African interconnectivity and lay the foundations for our country to become a regional and global hub, offering advantages to the continent’s circular economies. The opportunity was also used to call on Angolans to remain united and take advantage of the opportunities that Japan offers to form partnerships that will allow our country to catapult to the top places in development, both on the continent and in the world.

The Embassy of Angola in Japan participated from 23 to 24 October 2024, in Kumamoto, Kyushu Province in Southern Japan, in the 6th Congress of High School Students for “World Tsunami Awareness Day” which took place under the Theme : “Learning about life-saving measures and creative reconstruction.”

The annual meeting brought together students from all countries and regions of the world who came together to learn about the threat of tsunamis, disaster prevention measures and risk reduction.

On the Japanese side, as host, members of the government, JICA, Japan Meteorological Agency in Kumamoto, as well as high school students from some schools in Kumamoto, participated.

In this edition, more than 500 students from 43 countries and regions participated, including Angola, which was represented by students from the French School, namely: ANNA DUARTE, BRÁULIO PIRES, ISABELLA VIGÁRIO, JOEL CUPESSALA and VIVIANE FERREIRA, both students from the Escola do Allioune Blondin Beye High School, located in Luanda, being the only African country to participate.

The highlight of the event was marked by the recorded Message from the Prime Minister of Japan H.E. Shigeru Ishiba, who thanked everyone for their presence, recalled the damage that natural disasters have caused worldwide, and in Japan in particular, and appealed to young students to become future leaders who will continue the search for solutions to the cause highlighted, to save as many lives as possible.

The event was followed by several moments, namely, the commemorative tree planting ceremony, performances with musical instruments, dance, and the impactful speeches of Kumamoto students who witnessed the 2016 earthquake.

During the congress, several workshops were also held, in which students were able to witness traces of the damage that the earthquake of intensity 7 on the Richter Scale caused to Kumamoto Prefecture in 2016. Afterwards, students from 43 countries, in groups, also presented reports on what they learned during the workshops, with emphasis on the presentation by Angolan students, Viviane Ferreira and Bráulio Pires, who gave a brilliant presentation on prevention measures, reduction risk and how to improve communication during a natural disaster alert.

The closing ceremony was enhanced by Japanese cultural music and dance.

On October 18th of the current year, HE Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, traveled to the City of Maebashi (Gunma Prefecture), to participate in the launch of the Initiative, Café de Angola connecting cultures and the world”, an initiative within the scope of the policy of economic diversification, internationalization and export of products with the “made in Angola” seal, to different international markets, with special emphasis on products such as coffee, wood, materials construction, drinks and soft drinks, among others, as a way of presenting the brands that exist in our country to the world.

The Café de Angola initiative was organized in partnership with the company Pango Consulting Group and Goshuen Hall, an event that included the participation of local businesspeople and coffee lovers, including some representatives of institutions dedicated to the commercialization and import of coffee. same product at the Japanese level.

Participants at the Café de Angola event had the opportunity to taste our coffee (a global reference), as well as learn about the history of production, its ecological traits and get to know the main Coffee brands in our market. The tasters, mostly bar traders, businesspeople and the general public, took advantage of the occasion to celebrate the advances of the coffee industry in Angola in a festive atmosphere, promoting the sharing of ideas and the exchange of contacts for future partnerships.

The visit to the city of Maebashi (Gunma) culminated in a courtesy meeting between H.E. On October 12th of the current year, H.E. Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, participated as Guest of Honor at the SOKA University Festival, in which diplomats from SADC countries also participated.

The SOKA University Festival is a cultural musical event organized and directed by students from the institution’s most diverse courses and includes the presentation of concerts, exhibitions and other cultural and recreational demonstrations, such as dance, music, acting and poetry. The event program also included the presentation of honorary diplomas to the most outstanding students, as well as the presentation of performances in the field of fine arts and a musical concert hosted by the university’s different bands and choral groups that showcase classical musical scores by famous composers. at a global level.

Other art preforms, exhibitions of scientific works and experiments and small stands displaying some local delicacies and drinks were also presented.

In her intervention, the Ambassador of Angola thanked the invitation and promised to work so that Angolan students can in the future benefit from the scholarships offered by the University, as well as promoting cooperation between this educational institution and its Angolan counterparts.

On the 10th and 11th of October of the current year, HE Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, participated in a study visit to the Fukushima region, a visit organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at accredited diplomats in Japan.

The objective of this study visit was to present the economic potential of the Fukushima region, the third largest prefecture in Japan, located in the Tohoku region, affected by the serious impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake, which occurred on March 11 of 2011, known by many locals as the triple catastrophe – earthquake, tsunami that shook the nuclear power plant in the same region.

More than thirteen years later, Fukushima has now become a busy tourist destination with people wanting to witness the extensive revitalization efforts, which have allowed not only the return of people but also businesses with the realization of a series of innovative projects, both in the area of ​​robotics and green hydrogen, as well as in the plan for rebuilding the coast and recovering the fishing industry and commerce.

Participants on the same visit were able to stay in touch with the Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster Memorial Museum, a beautiful and modern complex, completed in 2020 and known locally as “Denshokan”, which recounts in great detail the events of the natural disaster occurred in 2011 and its destructive power, providing important lessons (through written records, audiovisual materials and documents), regarding the issue of natural disasters and the effort that must be made in preparing future generations for major events and natural catastrophes .

The event was marked by H.E Mrs. Ambassador, on behalf of the diplomatic corps, who thanked the invitation and on behalf of everyone, recognized the efforts of the Japanese Government in rehabilitating the region, transforming Fukishima into a hub for development. He also recognized the efforts of local authorities to recover the fishing industry in the region, taking the opportunity to taste the region’s seafood at a dinner hosted by the governor of Fukushima, H.E. Uchibori Masao.
