As part of the program to celebrate 50 years of National Independence, the Embassy of Angola in Japan, in collaboration with the Angola/Japan Friendship Association, organized an event to present the tourist and cultural potential of our country.

Members of the Setagaya District City Council and the Japanese community residing in the vicinity of the embassy participated in the event.

The presentation of Her Excellency Mrs. Ambassador Teodolinda Coelho was accompanied with great enthusiasm, which led those present to applaud and learn more about our country.

In his speech, H.E. Mrs. Ambassador addressed the Importance of tourism for the Angolan economy, Investments in Tourist Infrastructure and Future perspectives for tourism in Angola. Information was also circulated about the Japanese travel agency World Air Service, which will hold its first Tour to Angola, with departure confirmed for January 11, 2025, with the same Agency on the agenda for 2 more tours, one scheduled for 18 and the other for January 25, 2025.

Next was the moment of questions and answers, which basically focused on the reason why Angola is now prioritizing tourism, in which the Ambassador in response informed that Angola faced a long period of war, and then the process of demining the country, only after the completion of this process, was it possible to give due attention to the tourism sector, firstly because it is a sector that contributes significantly to a country’s GDP, and a potential generator of employment, which will contribute to the country’s development.

In a pleasant environment, the guests tasted some delicacies of Angolan cuisine, and the mucua juice that attracted everyone’s attention, with emphasis on the kuduro dance performance by the Afrobased group, which livened up the atmosphere, and some guests bravely dared to learn some dance steps. The end of the event was marked by a family dance, which brought joy to those present.

Tokyo, the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Japan, participated from 26 to 29 September in the edition of Tourism EXPO Japan  (TEJ), an event that took place at Tokyo Big Sight and was organized by the Japanese Association of Travel Agents JATA and the Association of Tour Operators.

Expo Japan is considered one of the world’s leading tourism events, with over 1,265 companies participating, including operators and institutions involved in Japan’s tourism policy-making. According to the organization’s data, over 80 countries and regions from around the world participated in the event.

The Japan Tourism Expo, which was themed “Creating New Travel and Expanding Tourism Exchange”, organized programmatic activities ranging from business meetings and a round table that was attended by 10 Ministers of Tourism from several countries around the world. Some discussion panels were also organized, which were attended by global institutions linked to the tourism sector, such as the World Tourism Organization (WTO), the European Tourism Commission (ETC) , o Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia, as well as some local tourism associations and investors, who saw this event as an opportunity to discuss issues related to the process of revitalizing tourism (post Covid-19), in view of the current challenges of the sector.

The 2024 edition of the Japan Tourism Expo proposed the organization of new travel styles, introducing diversified content, such as cruises, sports tourism, adventure tourism or intra-star observation tourism.

  •  Angola’s participation in the Tourism Expo Japan

The Angolan Diplomatic Mission, as part of its cultural diplomacy, organised a small stand where it displayed works of art (pieces and utensils), as well as promoting the distribution of advertising material reflecting Angola’s tourism potential, also highlighting the cultural diversity and tourist and cultural attractions of our country. To demonstrate its gastronomic impact, a tasting of some of our country’s delicacies was promoted.

Painted in the national colours and decorated with images and videos that promoted the concept “Angola as a country of the future and open to tourism”, the Angola Stand also served as a test for some brands of drinks produced in our country, such as Cuca Beer, spirits such as Angola sugarcane spirit, Gin and Liqueurs. It also took the opportunity to promote Angolan Coffee, considered by many to be one of the best in the world.

With constant queues of Japanese visitors curious to learn more about our country’s society and cultural diversity, the Angola Stand was considered one of the top 10 most visited stands at the entire Fair, allowing the public to explore its tourist diversity, through audiovisual images and advertising, which allowed interaction and exchange of contacts with potential tourists and interested public.

It should be remembered that the Japan International Tourism Fair is an event organized annually and brings together the world’s main tourism operators.

EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ANGOLA, In Tokyo on September 30, 2024.-

Tokyo, September 13 to 15, 2024, H.E. Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, visited the Tamana City to participate in the 40th Anniversary celebration of the Tamana International Exchange Association, an Association dedicated to promoting the Portuguese language, culture, gastronomy, and the customs of the Angolan people.

This visit was organized with the aim of showcasing the economic and cultural potential of the region and fostering exchange and rapprochement between the peoples of Japan and Angola, exploring the possibility of creating partnerships within the framework of city twinning.

The highlight of the visit was the commemorative event, which was attended by various entities affiliated with Tamana City and the association. Among the distinguished guests were H.E. Takahiro Kurahara, Mayor of Tamana City, Ms. Rieko Mizumoto, President of the Association, and Ambassador Hironori Sawada, the Association’s Director for International Relations. Delivering a few remarks at the anniversary celebration, H.E. the Ambassador of Angola expressed her great happiness and excitement at visiting Tamana City and meeting the people of the city, who had been so welcoming. She discussed the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Angola and Japan, which has lasted for approximately 50 years and has shown significant growth, with high-level visits, the signing of important bilateral agreements, and a particular emphasis on the areas of economy and investment, referring to the entry into force of the Agreement on the Promotion and Protection of Investments between the two countries.

The Angolan Ambassador acknowledged the various projects undertaken by the citizens of Tamana, such as the initiative of sending letters to different countries, including Angola. She also expressed gratitude for the support provided by the city’s residents to the Angolan Women’s Handball team during their training camp in Tamana, which contributed to their success in the world championships and the Olympics.

As part of the same visit, and to gain a deeper understanding of the region’s history and culture, the Angolan Ambassador attended a centennial tea ceremony featuring locally grown tea. She also visited a citrus farm and other sites of economic importance, as well as the sports complex that had hosted the Angolan Women’s Handball team on several occasions.

CITY OF TOKYO HOSTS TICAD-9 MINISTERIAL MEETING

The city of Tokyo hosted the Ministerial Meeting of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-9) on August 24th and 25th of this year, held at the New Otani Hotel. The theme of the conference was “Co-creating Innovative Solutions with Africa” to better address the global challenges affecting the world and our continent, working in close cooperation with African countries to find solutions.

The Angolan delegation was led by His Excellency Rui Miguêns de Oliveira, Minister of Industry and Commerce, and included Her Excellency the Angolan Ambassador to Japan, Ms. Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

In accordance with the work program and conceptual agenda, the Ministerial Meeting took place over two days and included, among other events, plenary sessions, interactive debates, and exhibitions on the sidelines of the meeting. During this period, participants had the opportunity to share experiences and present innovative solutions to various economic and social challenges facing our continent and the world.

The interactive debate sessions addressed topics on society and the realization of a sustainable future, focusing on the issue of human resources, especially youth as future leaders of Japan-Africa cooperation. The meeting also hosted a panel that addressed the issue of peace and stability as a guarantee of human dignity and security, as well as a major panel focused on the economy, which addressed the issue of how to promote trade and foster investment with African countries, taking advantage of the concept of seeking African solutions through the implementation of innovative methods, including digital transformation.

It should be noted that the Ministerial Meeting takes place every two years on a rotational basis (between Japan and African capitals) and will serve as preparation for the next TICAD-9 Summit, to be held in 2025 in the city of Yokohama (Japan).

The President of the Republic of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina, is making a state visit to Angola at the invitation of his counterpart, João Lourenço.

Having arrived in Luanda the previous day, President Rajoelina began his visit on Thursday with a tribute to the First President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, visiting his Memorial. After that, he proceeded to Cidade Alta for the official program at the Palace.

At the Presidential Palace, he was welcomed with the due ceremonial honors—21 cannons salute, national anthems, and a military parade—and was then greeted by the official Angolan delegation assembled for the occasion. The President of the Republic of Angola, as the host, accompanied the distinguished visitor throughout the visit, as documented by the images. The two Heads of State held a private meeting (tête-à-tête) before joining their respective delegations in the Council of Ministers’ meeting room.

Tokyo, on July 30th of this year, 20 Japanese students assigned to Primary education from different educational institutions in the Setagaya District, carried out a study visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Japan, to learn about our country and learn more about the diplomatic work carried out by this Diplomatic Mission.

This visit is part of the summer holidays and was promoted by Setagaya Crossing, an organization from the same district that promotes cultural interaction and study activities for students from different primary schools, thus creating opportunities for knowledge, sharing culture among young people in Japan and the Embassies accredited in this country, facilitating greater socioeconomic and cultural knowledge of people from other continents.

Also participating in the same activity were students from this District (aged between 11 and 12), diplomats stationed at the Embassy and those responsible for Setagaya City Hall linked to the area of ​​education and culture. Those present were not only able to learn about the economic, social, cultural and tourist potential of Angola, but also the unique characteristics of the Angolan people and their rich cultural roots.

During this visit, the welcome message from H.E. Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, was read, who thanked the students and organizers of the visit for choosing our Embassy and wished the students a good learning experience, saying that the doors of the Embassy were open for future collaborations, at the same time that she asked the boys to continue studying and learning more about our country, hoping that in the near future they will visit Angola to be able to witness the natural charms and its cultural diversity .

The highlight of the activity was the presentation of Angolan cuisine and dance, which allowed students to try out some Kuduro dance steps that galvanized and aroused the interest of the little ones.

In this afternoon the Prime Minister of the Republic of Portugal, Luís Montenegro, he was at the Palácio da Cidade Alta for the farewell greetings,  concluding his three-day official visit to Angola.

Luís Montenegro and his delegation was greeted by the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço and for other entities or the Angolan State. Military honors were also given to the Head of the Portuguese Government.

The Portuguese Prime Minister’s visit to Angola culminated in the signing of twelve cooperation agreements in different fields. Another notable note was Luís Montenegro’s announcement about the reinforcement of another 500 million Euros in the Portugal-Angola credit line, which thus increases from the current 2 billion to 2.5 billion Euros.
