14 cooperation agreements signed

Under the watchful eyes of Presidents João Lourenço of Angola and Alassane Ouattara of Cote D’Ivoire, 14 agreements in various areas were signed in Abidjan on Thursday, June 27, opening up a new perspective for cooperation between the two countries.

This is the effective result of President João Lourenço’s state visit to the Republic of Cote D’Ivoire, which ends tomorrow, Friday, with his return to Luanda.

Agreements were signed in the fields of Agriculture, Mining and Hydrocarbons, Health, Sports, Broadcasting, Diplomacy (Political Consultations), Intergovernmental Cooperation, Framework and Promotion of Youth, Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality, Water Resources, Numerical Economy (Information and Communication Technologies), Forest Resources and Fauna, Culture and Trade.

The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, today addressed the state of relations and cooperation between Luanda and Brazzaville, in a relaxed dialogue with his counterpart from the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso.

The two statesmen also analyzed aspects linked to the regional situation.

President Denis Sassou Nguesso has been in the Angolan capital since last night.

In Pretoria, the inauguration of the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, winner of the recent multi-party elections held in the country, took place this Wednesday, June 19th.

Approximately 20 Heads of State attended the ceremony with their presence. They were joined by Vice Presidents, Prime Ministers and other heads of delegations, and the number of local entities that witnessed the historic event was also very representative, including politicians, men from Academia, Culture, Sports, Science and religious denominations.

The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, took part in the inauguration ceremony of the elected President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, which took place today at the Union Building, the Presidential Palace in Pretoria. President João Lourenço, leading one of over forty invited foreign delegations, landed the day before in South African territory to witness the historic event, also in his capacity as the Acting President of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

After the intense day at the SADC headquarters, the President of the Republic of Angola went to the Presidential Palace in Gaborone for a courtesy meeting with his counterpart, the President of the Republic of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi.

The two statesmen held a private meeting and then discussed their desire to see increased cooperation between the two countries in the presence of their respective delegations.

In summary, Luanda and Gaborone reiterated their enormous interest in developing concrete actions for the benefit of their people and economies, in the spirit of what was agreed in July last year when President João Lourenço visited Botswana.

Tokyo, on June 6th of this year, H.E. Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, participated in a study visit to Yame City, the second largest city in Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyūshū Prefecture, within the scope of a program organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and aimed at the Diplomatic Corps accredited in this country.

The group of diplomats was received by the Mayor of Yame City, Mr. Tsuneyuki Mitamura, who also hosted a welcome dinner for the group.

This visit was organized with the aim of presenting the economic and tourist potential of the region and deepening better understanding of the history and culture of the region, that is endowed with a moderate climate and the benefits of several rivers, including the Yabe and Hoshino rivers, as well as natural forests, wich allows best practice of agriculture, such as producing rice, tea and a variety of fruits. The tea from this region has been cultivated for over 600 years and is considered one of the best variety in Japan.

The participants of the tour had the opportunity to learn about the history of this important city, which was established around a significant castle built in the region and developed through commerce, industry, and art, such as the Yame paper. The diplomats had the opportunity to learn about the region’s hospitality based on nature, history, culture (local habits and customs), food and drink.

The diplomats’ activity program reached its hight with a visit to the Village of Hoshino, famous for producing premium gyokuro (the highest grade of Japanese tea), the Hoshino Tea Museum, the Central Tea Plantation of Yame (located in the mountainous area and forming a true “green carpet of tea”), the Yame Arts Center which showcases materials of traditional Japanese paper art, as well as strolling through the streets of Yame Fukushima, composed of traditional-style buildings, and the Kitaka and Yokomachimachiya-Koryukan distilleries, which produce highly appreciated local sake and liqueurs.

This program was greatly applauded by H.E. Ambassador and the diplomats who participated in the visit, and saw this as an opportunity to learn about the traditional roots of the people of the southern region of Japan, and expressed their pleasure of what they witnessed at having participated in it.

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, received today in Luanda a message from his Congolese counterpart, Dennis Sassou Nguesso.

The bearer of the message was the Minister of Forest Economy of the Republic of Congo, Rosalie Matondo.

Among other aspects, according to Rosalie Matondo, the document invites the Angolan President to participate in the First International Conference on Afforestation, to be held in Brazzaville from July 2 to 5.

On May 31 of this year, H.E. Mrs. Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, visited the “One Vilage, one product market” store located at Narita International Airport.

The One Vilage store is an initiative of JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) and aims to promote and support producers from different African and Asian countries, with more than 300 works of art and food products.

The products displayed in the store are mostly works of art and small utensils, as well as small foodstuffs that are highly prized by travelers who come to the store from various regions of the world, who visit Japan on tourism or in transit and take the opportunity to buy souvenirs and gifts for their families.

The Angolan ambassador sees this as an opportunity for Angolan products, which will also be able to take advantage of the same space to make themselves known on the Japanese market, especially for local Angolan artisans and producers.

In his presentation, Mr. Takashi Tsunemi, Deputy Director-General of JETRO’s Overseas Business Support Center, thanked the Ambassador for her visit and expressed his desire to see Angolan products on display.

The Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Japan participated in an event organized by the African Group as part of “Africa Day,” which took place at the facilities of Sophia University in Tokyo.

The commemorative event held on May 24 was preceded by a lecture attended by over 200 participants, including students, faculty members, and members of the African Diplomatic Corps accredited in Japan. They discussed, among other topics, the issue of African integration, the continent’s economic development process, and the relationship between Japan and African countries with the framework of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD). The aim of TICAD is to create mechanisms and initiatives conducive to financing projects that support the development of the cradle continent.

The Africa Day celebrations reached their peak with a political event that included the presence of the Minister of Education, Mr. Masahito MORIYAMA, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Masahiro KOMURA, who was the guest of honor.

The same event culminated in a tasting fair featuring food from various African countries, where Angola showcased its cuisine with typical local dishes. On this occasion, the Minister of Education visited the Angola stand, where H.E. Ms. Teodolinda Coelho, the Ambassador of Angola to Japan, presented the various traditional dishes of our country to the Minister.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Angola participated in a reception on April 24 in celebration of the Freedom Day of the Republic of South Africa, which is celebrated on April 27.

During the reception, the Ambassador of Angola briefly exchanged greetings with the Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Yoichi FUKAZAWA.

On April 16, a delegation from the Angolan Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with the aim of evaluating the implementation of the maternal and child notebook, visited the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Japan.
