At the beginning of the event, the Ambassador of Angola in Japan, Teodolinda Coelho, addressed a speech that resonated throughout the room, emphasizing the essence of peace as a beacon for future generations, a symbol of hop to guide the future. She eloquently highlighted the vast benefits that peace provides in all aspects of national life, from the political landscape to economic development and social well-being. Furthermore, she inspired resident Angolans to embrace respect for diverse opinions and foster a sense of patriotic duty.

Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, hosted on Friday, March 29th, the First Political Consultations Meeting between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, at the Director level, held within the framework of the Agreement on Political Consultations between the two countries signed in 2011.
The Angolan delegation was led by Ambassador Miguel DIALAMICUA, Director of Asia and Oceania at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and included H.E. Teodolinda Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of Angola to Japan. The Japanese delegation was headed by Ambassador Toshihiko HORIUCHI, Director-General of the African Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The occasion provided an opportunity for both parties to address issues of bilateral, regional, and international interest, particularly in the political and diplomatic domains. During the same meeting, both parties reviewed the state of existing cooperation between the two countries, with a particular emphasis on the Agreement on Liberalization, Protection, and Promotion of Investments (ALPPI) signed last August and its significance for improving the business environment. On the other hand, issues related to economic reforms in Angola and its openness to investment through visa facilitation and exemptions, streamlining procedures for private investment, as well as the exchange of high-level visits, were also highlighted.
Both parties also addressed issues related to international cooperation forums, particularly regarding aspects related to the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), and Japan’s contribution to the continent’s development through the creation of partnerships and investments in African countries.
Within the scope of the regional and international agenda, the two countries had the opportunity to address the issue of major regional conflicts in Africa, Europe (with a focus on Ukraine), as well as in the Middle East region. In this regard, Japan recognized and valued Angola’s efforts within the framework of peace processes in Africa and its regional leadership, while Angola acknowledged the leadership role that Japan has developed in the field of multilateral diplomacy.
At the multilateral level, the importance of seeking a position regarding the reform of the United Nations Security Council was highlighted.
Both parties agreed to coordinate their schedules to hold a high-level meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan within the framework of the existing Agreement.

In Tokyo, on March 27 of the current year, the Chief Representative of the Setagaya Fire Department, in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, responded to the request of Her Excellency the Ambassador to conduct a training program for emergency situations and earthquakes for the staff of the Angola Embassy in Japan.
Her Excellency Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of Angola to Japan, along with the diplomatic staff, central appointees, and local staff participated in the same simulation. This training is part of the efforts of this Diplomatic Mission to create conditions that raise awareness and prepare its staff for potential natural disasters.
The promoters of this initiative brought all the technical means to the Embassy’s premieses, including a vehicle for earthquake simulation (with intensity +8), fire simulation tents, emergency materials, and equipment for rescuing buried victims.
The training session was preceded by a discussion on the different precautions and actions to take in emergency situations, particularly regarding the care of subsistence means and first aid medical assistance to victims, as well as the use of the emergency backpack.
During the same training action, an instruction manual containing general information and procedures for emergency cases was distribuited.

On March 15, the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Japan hosted the meeting of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) accredited to Japan.
On December 1, commencing at 3:00 p.m. for approximately 45 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Ambassadors of the SADC (Southern African Development Community) countries to Japan. The overview is as follows.
At the outset, after expressing her respect to the ambassadors of the Southern African countries to Japan for their daily efforts to strengthen relations with Japan, Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan and Southern African countries are important partners in tackling various challenges together and, based on the longstanding trust of each other, she would like to further develop the relationship in a wide range of areas including the economic area.
In response, H.E. Mr. José Maria da Silva Vieira de MORAIS, Ambassador of the Republic of Mozambique to Japan and Dean of the SADC Diplomatic Missions to Japan congratulated Minister Kamikawa on her appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs, and expressed his high appreciation and gratitude for the role that Japan plays in the development of Southern Africa. He also stated that he would like to continue to develop relations between Japan and Southern African countries from multiple perspectives including increasing investment from Japan and strengthening human resource development. Other ambassadors also added that they would like to strengthen the economic relations between the Southern African region and Japan as well as bilateral relations.
Minister Kamikawa stated that she would like to continue a good dialogue with the ambassadors to Japan and, with further involvement of related organizations such as JICA and Keidanren, work more closely in such areas as human resource development, especially youth, rule of law, and water issues in both bilateral and multilateral contexts, looking ahead to the TICAD Ministerial Meeting to be held in Tokyo next year, and the TICAD 9 to be held in Yokohama in 2025.

On November 30th, the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Japan hosted the meeting of the African Diplomatic Corps (ADC) accredited in Japan.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan H.E. Mrs. Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, received the new Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Japan, H.E. Dr. LUKUMWENA Nsenda.
On November 15th of this year, Her Excellency Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, traveled to the city of Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, where she held a working meeting and prospecting session with His Excellency Dr. Ichiro KASHITANI, President of Toyota Tsusho and Honorary Consul of Angola in the region.
This visit is part of the follow-up to the action plan and program of this Diplomatic Mission, and seeks to establish partnerships and contacts in order to create conditions for the implementation of economic diplomacy.
As part of the same visit, the Angolan diplomat visited the Toyota Museum in Nagoya to learn about the history of the Toyota automobile brand. There, she learned about the origins of the brand, its history as a textile company, and its evolution into a manufacturer of machines and later automobile engines.
Afterwards, she visited the facilities of the Honorary Consulate of Angola in Nagoya and held a working meeting with the Honorable Consul. During the meeting, they discussed important issues related to the partnership and rapprochement between Angolan and Japanese entrepreneurs, as well as the follow-up on the recommendations of the business forum held in March 2023, on the occasion of the State Visit of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Angola to Japan.
The identification of new business areas in Angola, with a special focus on the mining sector, was also discussed at a working lunch between Her Excellency the Ambassador and the President of Toyota Tsusho, held at the company’s Guest House in Nagoya.
As part of the same trip, Her Excellency the Ambassador also visited Nagoya Castle, where she learned about the history of the castle.
