The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, started in this Monday his official three-day visit to Japan, was received in mid-afternoon by Emperor Naruhito.

Following the strict protocol for visits to the Imperial Palace, in Tokyo, President João Lourenço was accompanied only by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço.

With the Emperor of Japan, on the throne since 2019, the Angolan Head of State addressed the relations of friendship and cooperation that unite Angola and Japan.

This morning, for the first act on Japanese soil, President João Lourenço opened the Japan-Angola Business Forum with a speech in which he called for Japanese investment in Angola, “taking advantage of the current climate of cooperation to transform existing investment opportunities into wealth and prosperity for both peoples and nations”.

The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, arrived at Tokyo in the morning of this Sunday (local time, 8 hours ahead of Angolan time), to start his Official Visit to Japan on Monday.

The visit takes place at the invitation of the Japanese government and, on the first day, President João Lourenço will have meetings with Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

Also on that day (Monday, 13th), the Angolan Head of State will participate in a Japan-Angola business forum, where he will give a speech.

On his visit to Japan, the President of the Republic is accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço and members of his Executive.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, Rui Orlando Xavier and Ambassadress Maria de Fátima Xavier, met today, February 22, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yoshimasa Hayashi and his wife, Mrs. Yuko Hayashi during the reception alluding to the birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The birthday of the Emperor of Japan is February 23rd.

On February 20, 2023, an activity took place at the facilities of the Embassy of Angola in Japan, which consisted of a lunch with typical Angolan dishes, power point projection of diverse information about Angola, music and dances of Angola, namely Semba and Kizomba and Kuduro, with Angolan dancers and a Japanese dancer.

The organization of the event was in charge of the Ambassador of Angola, Mrs. Maria de Fátima Xavier and was offered to the prestigious Association Tokyo Women’s Club – TWC.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Angola, Mr. Rui Orlando Xavier, welcomed the guests, wishing them a good lunch and a good moment of conviviality and apreciation of the Angolan culture.

The guests thanked the Embassy of Angola and its Ambassadress immensely, for the opportunity and spirit of coexistence, as shown in some photos and videos.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, Rui Orlando Xavier, received in his office on February 17, 2023, the Deputy Minister and Deputy Director General of the Department of African Affairs of MOFA, Matsubayashi Kenichiro, with whom he exchanged information on the situation in Ukraine, the Korean Peninsula and the Great Lakes region.

Existing relations between Angola and Japan and ways to strengthen them were also addressed.

Earlier this Thursday afternoon in Luanda, Angola and Japan analyzed the deepening of bilateral cooperation in the most varied domains, with particular focus on the Agreement on Liberalization, Protection and Promotion of Investment .

The two delegations, headed by His Excellencies Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes , Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities and Yamada Kenji , Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Japan, reviewed subjects of common interest, with emphasis on reciprocity of visits of high entities of the two countries.

The two countries intend to increase their cooperation in the political, economic and cultural domains , especially in the process of industrialization and overcoming challenges in the areas of agriculture and agribusiness development, oil and mining .

In this regard, mention was made of possible advances towards the Signing of Visa Exemption Agreements in official passports between the two countries.

Japan’s bilateral cooperation with Angola began in 1988 as Emergency Aid through UNICEF.

Japan has been carrying out its bilateral assistance to Angola, through international organizations , in efforts towards national reconciliation, food aid, assistance to farmers and poverty, assistance with the repatriation of refugees, mine clearance, water supply facilities and construction of primary schools, communication network, ports, among others, focusing on basic infrastructure.

The Counselor made a presentation about Angola and presented the Embassy to the students.

The strengthening of cooperation in the most varied domains between Angola and Japan was under analysis this Tuesday afternoon , February 7th, in Luanda, during an audience that His Excellency Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes , Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities granted to His Excellency Suzuki Toru , the new Ambassador of Japan in Angola.

During the audience, the two personalities dealt with matters of common interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation in already existing areas , such as health, mine clearance and technology .

The occasion was used for the new Ambassador of Japan in Angola to express the intention of the two countries to sign an Agreement for Exchange of Notes around the new Demining Project in force in Angola.

Angola and Japan have maintained bilateral relations since 1988.

Since then, the Japanese country has been assisting in efforts towards national reconciliation, demining , installation of water supply and construction of infrastructure, communication network and other sectors aimed at improving the Angolan economy and social stability.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Japan, Rui Orlando Xavier, accompanied by other diplomats, visited the Central Bank of Japan on January 25, 2023.

He was received by Mr. Yutaka Nishigaki, Director of the Coordination Division of the BOJ’s International Department, who accompanied the delegation on a guided tour of all the departments that make up the Bank, starting with the oldest building out of a total of four.

Afterwards, the Ambassador and the Diplomats visited the Currency Museum, where they could see the creation and evolution of Japanese currency, from the union with that of China to the present day.
