The Ambassador of Angola to Japan, Rui Xavier, accompanied by Ms. Ambassadress Fátima Xavier and diplomats participated in the 76th Ceremony of the Peace Memorial in the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki from 6 to 9 August 2021.

The ceremony honors the victims of the atomic bombs dropped by the US on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, various members of the Japanese government, representatives of opposition parties, the diplomatic corps and Ms Izumi Nakamitsu, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, who attended at the event in Representation of the UN Secretary General, Antônio Gueterres.

Sumbe – The Government of Japan has provided one million American dollars for the removal of explosive devices in Cuanza Sul province, ANGOP learned Friday.
The money was shared between NGOs Apacominas, with USD 800,000, and APOPO, with USD 200,000.

With this amount, the Angolan organisation Apacominas demined, between April 2020 and March 2021, 295,563 square metres in the municipality of Cela.

A report from the NGO points to the removal of 24 antipersonnel landmines, 128 uxos and 1,293 rounds of ammunition in the communities of São José, Quissanga Cungo, Aldeamento 1 and the Quilembo mountain.

According to its report, the NGO Apopo, of Belgian origin, says it is completing two camps in the Quipuco and Ungombe mountains, in Cela municipality.

The same document, which does not publish the quantities of devices already removed nor the area demined, stresses that they are currently preparing conditions for the demining of fields in Hotel 2 (Sumbe) and Chol Chol (Porto Amboim).

The Japanese ambassador to Angola, Jiros Maruhashi, has been in Cuanza Sul since Thursday to assess the level of implementation of the activities of the two NGOs.

Luanda – The Angolan mission at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, in Japan, should compete with patriotic spirit, each representative should give his/her best, in order to dignify the country, stressed this Thursday the Minister of Sports, Ana Paula do Sacramento.

Speaking to Radio-5 upon arrival in the Japanese capital, last morning, the official explained that the delegation was not required to achieve results, since the competition is played in an atypical period, due to Covid-19, but asked the athletes to give their utmost.

“We are aware that they will face very strong opponents and for what they have prepared they will seek to do their best,” he said acknowledging the difficulties faced during the preparation.

Angola is participating in the Olympic Games with the women’s handball team, besides individual sports in which it has two sailing athletes, an equal number in swimming, one in athletics and another in judo.

This is the country’s 10th participation since its debut in 1980 in Moscow. This was followed by Seoul (1988), Barcelona (1992), Atlanta (1996), Sydney (2000), Athens (2004), Beijing (2008), London (2012) and Rio de Janeiro (2016).

The 1st group of the Angolan Olympic delegation arrived in Tokyo, capital of Japan, for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020, taking place from the 23rd of July to the 8th of August 2021.
The group headed by Mr Mário Rosa, is made up of athletes from the men’s and women’s handball sailing team and was received at the airport by His Excellency the Ambassador of Angola to Japan Rui Xavier, Mrs. Ambassador Fátima Xavier and Mission diplomats.
However, the women’s team handball left on the 15th for the city of Tamana, in order to fulfill the last stage of preparation, under an agreement signed between that city and the AOC.
It should be noted that Angola will participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, in addition to the women’s handball modality, in sailing, swimming, judo and athletics.

Over the next few days, the remaining athletes will arrive in Tokyo, as well as H.E. Minister of Youth and Sports and Head of the Delegation, Ana Paula do Sacramento, the President of the CÔA, Gustavo da Conceicao and the Secretary General of the same organization, Antônio Monteiro.

Part of the Angolan delegation to the Tokyo Olympic Games, taking place from July 23 to August 8, in Japan, left Luanda this Monday, heading for the stage of the event.
The delegation, led by the head of the country’s Olympic mission, Mário Rosa de Almeida, is made up of the senior female team for handball and sailing, while the judo and the athletics representative will embark on the 19th and 26th of this month, respectively.
The swimming team will join the delegation in Europe.

Of the 39 members of the delegation, there are 23 females and 16 males, according to Mário Rosa.

On Sunday, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, handed over the National Flag to the Angolan delegation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, urging its members to honor the Nation.

This is the ninth presence of Angola in the biggest global sporting event, after Moscow ‘1980, Seoul ‘1988, Barcelona ‘1992, Atlanta ‘1996, Sydney ‘2000, Athens ‘2004, Beijing ‘2008, London ‘2012 and Rio ‘2016.

President of the Republic hands over the flag to the delegation to the Olympic Games

Luanda – The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, this Sunday handed over the Republic Flag to the country’s delegation to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, urging its members to honor the nation, regardless of the number of medals.
João Lourenço took part in the ceremony to hand over the Republic’s Flag and farewell the Angolan delegation to the Olympic Games, taking place from 24th of this month to 8th of August, and Paralimpicos, from 24th of August to 8th of September, both competitions in Tokyo.

The President of the Republic considered it meritorious and a dream of any athlete to represent the country in both events, fighting to win the medals in dispute.

He said he knew that he delivered the flag in good hands and to “young people who will do everything to honor the good name of Angola, (…) no matter how many medals they bring to the country”.

The minister of Youth and Sports, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, declared that the delegations will participate with the aim of representing and doing well.

The chairperson of the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA), Gustavo da Conceição, said that Angola is prepared to have a fair participation, both with the Olympic team and with the Paralympic team.

He added that the Angolan Olympic team is made up of 39 athletes from five sports, three of which qualified on merit and for having completed the qualifying games, namely handball, sailing and judo.

The other two, he explained, athletics and swimming, in accordance with the rules of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), are open to participation by all countries in the world.

The chairperson of the Angolan Olympic Committee informed that of the 39 members of the delegation, 23 are women and 16 men. “We will do everything to dignify national sport and show the world the potential of Angolan sports youth.”

He said that in the Paralympic Games, taking place from 24 August to 8 September, Angola will participate with two athletes classified by merit in athletics. Of these athletes, one is visually impaired and the other is motor.

Angola’s flag bearer, Natália Bernardo, thanked the recognition and considered the huge responsibility she received from her sister, who played the same role in the previous Olympics.

Natália Bernardo said that the Angolan delegation leaves for Tokyo with the expectation of improving national scores.

Judoka Neide Diassoma considered it a dream and privilege for any athlete to be part of the delegation.

The handing over of the Republic’s Flag, among other entities, was attended by ministers of state, ministers, secretaries of the President of the Republic, as well as the newly appointed provincial governor of Luanda, Ana Paula de Carvalho.

The Ambassador Rui Orlando Xavier visited the city of Nagoya accompanied by the President & CEO of Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Mr.  Ichiro Kashitani. They met the Mayor of Nagoya, H.E. Takashi Kawamura and the Governor of Aichi, H.E. Hideki Omura, in two separate meetings.

The occasion served for Ambassador Xavier to formally introduce Mr. Ichiro Kashitani to the local authorities as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Angola in Nagoya.

H. E. Esmeralda Mendonça, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, participated today, July 2, by video conference, in the presentation ceremony of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Angola in Japan to the city of Nagoya.

During the presentation, His Excellencies Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs mentioned that the appointment of the new honorary consul will contribute to the strengthening of partnerships between Angolan and Japanese companies, as well as the formulation of new cooperation policies.

The senior women’s national team of handball starts preparing, this month, the dispute of the Olympic Games, to be held from July 24th to August 9th, in the city of Tokyo, Japan, announced this week, the president of the Angolan Federation of Handball, José do Amaral Júnior “Maninho”

According to Angop, the official announced when the team arrived in Luanda, after winning the 14th trophy in the African Cup of Nations (CAN), played in Yaoundé, capital of Cameroon.

On the occasion, the official said that the micro-cycle starts in Luanda. On the 10th of July, the team travels to the Japanese city of Tamana, where they perform an internship until the start of the Games.

The preparation in that Japanese region is the result of an agreement signed between the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA) and the Japanese Government, during the projection, in 2019, of the seventh presence of the national “seven” in the biggest world event.

As part of Group A, Angola competes in the preliminary round of the Olympic Games alongside similar ones from Norway and the Netherlands, third and fourth classified in the last competition held in Brazil.

The Angolan team debuted in the referred competition in Atlanta’ 1996, in the United States, and conquered the best classification of all time, seventh place. Then followed appearances in the games of Sydney´2000, Athens´2004, Beijing´2008, London´2012 and Rio de Janeiro´2016.

Recognition
Regarding the African title, Maninho praised the players’ posture and highlighted: “they showed strength and intelligence, as well as competitive spirit, before and during the competition. Therefore, these were the determining factors for winning the championship.”

As for the opponents, he pointed to Tunisia, which Angola won in the semi-finals, by 27-23, after extra time, resulting from a draw to 21 goals in regulation time, as the most difficult team. Unbeaten in the 24th edition of CAN, the team won in the final, 25-15, Cameroon. Before, he toured class before Cape Verde (39-14), Congo (29-24), Democratic Republic of Congo (29-20) and Tunisia (27-23).

The feat, third in a row, allowed Angola to be in possession of the Cup definitively, in accordance with the competition regulations. The Cameroon race qualified, in addition to the champion, Cameroon, second placed, Tunisia (3rd) and Congo (4th), for the World Championship, to be hosted by Spain, in December.

The technical team led by Filipe Cruz also included Edgar Neto and José Chuma (assistant technicians), Adolfo Paulo (Scouting technician), António Neto (doctor) and Marina Calister (physiotherapist).
