PRESS RELEASE

TOKYO, 21/07- The Ambassador Designated to Japan, Teodolinda Rodrigues Coelho, received a delegation from TOYOTA TSUSHO CORPORATION on July 19th, led by their Executive Officer for New Business Development COO Africa Division Regional Officer for Africa, Mr. Kazumasa Kimura, in an audience.

During the meeting, existing cooperation aspects between the two countries were discussed and strengthened. The diplomat took the opportunity to review some large-scale projects that are being developed in Angola, particularly in the provinces of Namibe and Uíge.

In turn, the Executive Director of the Africa Division of TOYOTA TSUSHO CORPORATION reviewed the Group’s activities in Angola and the volume of investments in the developed areas, with particular emphasis on the expansion of the Port of Namibe, a project budgeted at 600 million US dollars, and the training of young mechanics at the Toyota Training Center in Luanda.

TOYOTA TSUSHO CORPORATION intends to expand its activities in Angola in the future, and it is currently making some visits to provincial headquarters, such as the Province of Benguela.

PRESS RELEASE

Tokyo, 14/07 – The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Angola to Japan addressed cooperation issues with officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on July 13th.

During the meeting with the JICA delegation, led by their Director of the Africa Division, AKUTSU Kentaro, the Diplomat expressed appreciation for the work carried out by JICA in various areas of cooperation, particularly in the education and transportation sectors. She also highlighted a significant project currently under development in the Namibe province.

Ambassador Teodolinda Coelho also took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of continuing mutually beneficial cooperation projects that already exist between Angola and Japan in various domains.

In turn, the Director of the Africa Division at JICA, who mentioned closely following the visit of His Excellency President of the Republic of Angola, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, to Japan last March, expressed great receptiveness to continue working with Angola in the identified areas of cooperation and explore potential future areas of collaboration.

Her Excellency Ambassador Teodolinda Rodrigues Coelho was appointed to lead the Diplomatic Mission of Angola on the 28th of March of the current year.

On July 6th of the current year, Her Excellency Ambassador of Angola to Japan, Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, was received by Mr. Takehiro Shimida, Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and minutes later held a meeting with His Excellency Takeo Mori, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, where she presented the certified copies of her credentials accrediting her as the designated Ambassador.

In turn, His Excellency Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed the Ambassador of Angola and emphasized the willingness to continue the existing cooperation projects between the two countries and the identification of new areas of business.

The diplomat also took the opportunity to reaffirm the Angolan government’s willingness to cooperate with Japan in the political-diplomatic, socio-economic, and technical-scientific areas, with the aim of attracting Japanese private investment to assist in the diversification of the Angolan economy.

The two diplomats took the opportunity to discuss aspects of cooperation between Angola and Japan, which received a new impetus after the visit of His Excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço in the past month of March, where he held meetings at the highest level, including with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and His Imperial Majesty Naruhito.

During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed interest in seeing Japan invest in the entrepreneurship sector, specifically in the field of technology for small and medium-sized enterprises. This sector is experiencing significant growth, and Japan is globally recognized as a leader in this field.

In addition to bilateral matters, multilateral issues were also discussed, with particular emphasis on the war in Ukraine.

On June 29th, Thursday, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Angola Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho arrived in Japan at approximately 5:35 PM.

The arrival of Her Excellency, the Ambassador, was anticipated at Tokyo Narita International Airport by the Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Ambassador Kawahara Eiichi, by Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Ms. Amélia Fernandes, as well as all the central appointed staff of the Embassy of Angola in Tokyo, Japan.

After exchanging welcoming greetings, Her Excellency Ambassador Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho and His Excellency Ambassador Kawahara Eiichi addressed issues concerning cooperation and strengthening of relations between the two countries.

Once again, the Mr. Kashitani, President of Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Honorary Consul of Angola in Nagoya, and his wife, had the kindness to fraternize on June 12, 2023, with the Xavier couple, on the occasion of Ambassador Rui Orlando Xavier’s diplomatic mission in Japan coming to an end. The gathering took place at the traditional Japanese restaurant Kochuan.
